Also jack Hargreaves in About town
The London Programme with Peter jay or janet street porter
Walking to the odeon at the Boleyn to see what the new film would be. Watching them put up the letters for the film rather than the digital displays we have now

Don't really remember the 70s version of the big match theme. They made another in 1980 which takes me back to mandarin segments for afters with arctic roll

Re: Sunday afternoons in the 1970s
I only need to hear a few bars of the theme tune from the Big Match for me to start smelling roast lamb.
Morning - Sunday school - (I remember the Big match before lunch) The Big Match
Wet Sunday afternoons - nothing on telly - models or train set
Good weather - down the "rec" - footy or cricket season dependent.
If the old man was off - to the sea side or fishing
Tea - tinned salmon sandwiches
TV - the world about us or Jacques Cousteau
then
homework - bed

good times

I'm gonna have to piss on my own chips here and a few others.

Bullseye started in 1981

Annie Nightingales request show started in 1982

Still as Chim Chim Cha Boo says, punk was probably a direct reaction to the general dirge that 1970's Sunday were.

Re: Sunday afternoons in the 1970s
Dad hitting the local community centre, the BETA club, in Plaistow bang on 12:00.

Hanging around outside playing football in the concrete forecourt area, eating crisps and drinking flat coke.

Dad coming out about 2:00ish, semi pissed. The Big Match normally started then so had to get back to watch it

Big Sunday Lunch, the only decent meal my Mum could cook.

Dad asleep on the sofa.

Straight over the park for a marathon footy game with me brother and mates till whenever it got dark.

Coming home caked in mud and scraping the dog shit off our shoes.

Listening to the Top 40 and getting really excited about chart positions of our favourite bands.

Annie Nightingale show coming on after the Top 40 and that sinking feeling that the weekend os over.

When the Boat Comes In

I had no idea what depression was, until that programme started. All these decades later, just the thought of the theme tune makes me want to start killing people.
